5 reasons kids should help pack lunch

1. It’s a learning opportunity
Kids learn by doing. Helping to make lunch teaches kitchen skills and nutrition at the same time.

2. They’ll eat more healthy food
When kids are in charge and making choices, even healthy food tastes better.

3. It’s empowering
Children start the day off with a healthy mindset; knowing they can be trusted and accomplish whatever they put their mind to.

4. Helping just feels good
And promotes a healthy sense of responsibility for taking care of themselves and others.

5. It takes a load off Mama
Sure, they’ll need a bit more supervision in the beginning but in the long run, it’s well worth it.

There’s no magical age when kids are ready to help - but  you won’t know what they’re capable of doing until you let them try. Regardless of the age, start small and build slowly to increase the number and difficulty of tasks.

You may think your 12 year old is old enough to pack his whole lunch, and he probably is, but easing him into it is a way to ensure success.
